Unwell Walker Rescued at the Grey Mare’s Tail

Mon, 16th Sep 2019

At around 1500 on Monday 16 September Dumfries and Galloway Police Division requested the assistance of Moffat MRT to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with a walker who had become unwell above the Grey Mares Tail Waterfall in the Moffat Hills.

A local BASICS Doctor (who is also a member of the rescue team) climbed the Tail path and arrived on scene at the same time as a HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick. The helicopter paramedic and doctor assessed the walker on scene while the team stood ready to deploy a stretcher to the scene should it be required.

The walker was winched on board the helicopter and transported back to the Grey Mare’s Tail car park where the team transferred him to a waiting ambulance. After assessment he was transferred by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for further checks.

The team was finally stood down around 1800.

The team wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
